Gorham's Japanese pattern dates back to 1870, making it one of the their patterns.

  1. The opening of Japan to the West in 1868 appears to have influenced sterling flatware design as heavily as it influenced other art forms. The inspiration for the aesthetic era can be traced at least in part to that event.
