Iris by Durgin

Iris by Durgin/Gorham is a fabulous pattern (in my humble opinion) with the rich ornate motif of irises on the terminal with the long intertwined leaves making up the stem. The pattern was introduced in 1900 by Durgin which was later bought by Gorham. An interesting feature is the serving pieces. You will not find them in this pattern. The serving pieces for this "Iris" pattern are included in the New Art pattern by Durgin, which also has pieces listed as "Narcissus", "Orange Blossom", and "Lily".

A beautiful piece, I mentioned the Cucumber Server in an earlier post. Like many of the serving pieces, this piece often is more ornate than other serving pieces in the pattern.

This very rare American Art Nouveau pattern, New Art was introduced by Durgin in 1898. I absolutely love Durgin designs for their detail and to me this is the best example of their fine craftsmanship. The detail is deep and complex, with different floral themes of Irises, Lilies, and Daffodils.

A Variety of Servers

Just a variety of different serving pieces that are a little different and fairly ornate. Some of these patterns, such as Scroll, New Art, Poppy, and Six Flowers are not as popular and therefore nice to see samples of their pieces.

These are the kind of pieces of sterling that I never get tired of. The details, the art, the design. I have shown Asparagus Servers before, but can you really ever see enough of them? Here are some more elegant pieces.

Chipped Beef Fork

First, for those not familiar, chipped beef is thinly sliced smoked cured beef. So, naturally, we need a Chipped Beef Fork to serve it. Personally, I still use Chipped Beef in a recipe, but I skimp and use a regular "place" fork to handle it. The pieces can be very ornate and lovely. They are small, approximately 6 3/4 inches.
