The European or Continental size Salad Fork is a bit larger than the normal individual dinner size, yet usually has the same design and shape as the dinner size. This size is found in very few patterns.

European Dinner Fork

The European or Continental Dinner Fork is only found in a few patterns. It is a  size larger of the traditional dinner fork. Generally the only different is the size.

Old Master is one of Towle's most popular patters. It was introduced in 1942 and designed Harold Nock. Patterns also credited to Nock include: Old Lace (1939), D'Orleans (1932), Candlelight (1934), Royal Windsor (1935), Virginia Carvel (1919), Rambler Rose (1937), Chased Diana (1925), Lady Constance,  and Lady Mary - all for Towle.

Top 50 Most Popular Sterling Flatware Patterns of the 20th Century

Based on the book, Silverware of the 20th Century, the Top 250 Patterns, the following is the list of the top 50 patterns (in alphabetical order). Two caveats here: this is silverware of the 20th century and there were some lovely patterns of the 19th century and this is the First Edition of this book, published in 1997. 

More interesting is that out of these 50 patterns, 2 are stainless (ST) and 5 are silver plate (SP), leaving 43 sterling (SS)

Napkin Ring

In addition to the Napkin Clip, there is also the Napkin Ring that can be found in some patterns. Some of the patterns consider the Napkin Rings "Hollowware" and some consider them  flatware. It depends on the pattern.

Overcup Tea Strainer (Part 2)

I  posted earlier on the Overcup Tea Strainer, an over the cup piece used to strain tea leaves when making a cup of cup. This is a very elaborate piece given there is a lot of area for the designers to work with.

Cranberry Server

A serving piece with flat oval piece used with cranberry jelly that was made in molds (much like the canned kind we find now), the Cranberry Server allowed one to slice the cranberry mold and then serve the pieces.
